The Earley Risers had a successful weekend at SMW 2009: In the IPMS competition Hugh won a Gold medal for his converted 1/144 scale Sweet Hurricane Mk 1b (Class 2) and a Silver medal for his Resin Gloster VI Schneider floatplane (Class 13) which also won the Ron Rowley Memorial Trophy for Best model of an inter-war (1919-39) RAF aircraft. Steve won a Gold medal for his ‘Hephalump’ sci-fi animal (Class 71).
Andrew won the Antics trophy (and the £25 prize money) with his Italian M14/30 tank
The club display stand went down well, the Mediterranean theme attracted many favourable comments from visitors and fellow IPMS members alike.
Mick Marshall’s impromptu CASEVAC demonstration was a surprise to everyone, especially to Mick himself. Fortunately we got him out of hospital after SMW late on the following Tuesday night. He made a full recovery and was well enough to drive home to Orkney the friday after. (Maybe next year we’ll have a Mickwatch rota as well at next year’s SMW!)
