Earley Risers at The Mosquito Museum on 18th May

Earley Risers were well represented on Sunday, Nige and Ewan were on site first to complete Steve’s setup work from Saturday; It was decided to centre all the De Havilland and Aircraft displays and then spread the rest of the table by themes.

Tim P, Peter, Simon and Brian joined them and that created a well populated centre display of De Havilland Monoplanes, Mosquito’s and Hornets, and De Havilland biplanes on the black Earley Risers cloth, backed by a mixed VTOL display on the raised display

These were flanked on either side by Ewan’s big armour which in turn led to Axis Subjects on the left, with Allied Subjects and Sci Fi on the right.

This seemed to work well on the day because there was a lot of interaction from different visitors which was quite specific to each zone.

Ewan’s Freedom Strike received a lot of attention - as much on techniques and methods as visual impact. He also demonstrated the IKEA style of sci fi modelling, by completing and displaying two Trumpeter Transformer models by mid-afternoon. (They’ll be in the “show and tell” at our next club meeting.)

Moments of drama occurred when an unfortunate hand strayed onto one of Tim L’s Mosquitos; which removed a prop (quickly repaired). It was nice that the adult responsible came back separately to apologise for that, and the loss of Peter’s B-36 left jet pod. So six turning two burning for the duration. It was happily recovered at the end of show.

Overall, it was a well-attended show; the improved arrival and departure marshalling made the traffic flow better than last year. All the individual members’ models attracted interest and positive comment - usually according to Murphy’s law, when they were away from the stand.
